Celebrity couple Sarah Geronimo and Matteo Guicidelli's supposedly 'secret wedding' in Shangri-La turned into a highly-publicized event after the intervention of Sarah's mother, Mommy Divine. Yet despite her efforts to delay the wedding, love conquered all odds, and the ceremony continued. Now, the 'Popstar Royalty' is officially a Mrs. Guidicelli!

Many people are expressing their admiration for Matteo, who stood his ground firmly throughout the wedding. According to a police blotter, the actor punched Mommy Divine's bodyguard because he was the one who spilled the location of their civil wedding. The police blotter eventually made its way to the hands of the media.

After announcing their engagement on public in November 2019, Matteo also penned a heartfelt message for his future parents-in-law. The 29-year-old actor promised to love and care for Sarah, and even expressed his desire to unite their families together as one:

"Mahal na mahal ko po si Sarah. Mahal ko din po kayung magulang nya at mga kapatid nya. Hangad ko po na maging isang pamilya tayo. Pangako ko po na aalagan ko si Sarah na kapareho ng pangangalaga nyo sa kanya."

It's not a secret that Sarah's parents, Delfin and Divine, disapproved of Matteo for their daughter. In the past, Mommy Divine has not been subtle about her disapproval of their relationship. Yet in the end, despite their intervention, Sarah still chose to follow her heart.

Many netizens are criticizing Mommy Divine as being 'selfish,' for allegedly holding Sarah in the reins. But many are also happy, since the 31-year-old popstar finally broke free of her mother's reins. As of now, neither Sarah nor her family has talked publicly of the incident.
