Giving birth is considered as the miracle of life. During this moment, a mother willingly endures hours of pain to safely deliver her baby. This process is not the same for every woman, but all births are incredibly amazing. And every once in a while, we also get to witness a once-in-a-lifetime moment!

For many women, breaking your water is one of the tell-tale signs that you will be having your baby soon. However, in rare cases, some mothers give birth to their babies without breaking their water! This incredible footage showed the exact moment during a cesarean operation when a baby came out while still in its amniotic sac.

In this video, the mother was undergoing a c-section operation to deliver her baby. The doctors were carefully using their tools not to poke out the mother's amniotic sac, which is still surprisingly intact! A few seconds later, the amniotic sac broke and the baby took its first breath.

Giving birth with the amniotic sac is a rare phenomenon known as en caul births. This is incredibly rare, with a rate of only 1 in 80,000 births. That being said, witnessing an en caul birth is truly a once-in-a-lifetime and magical experience.

In some cases when a baby is born prematurely, doctors choose en caul births to protect the baby's health. Dr. Pan Mian, a resident doctor from Fujian Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital, shared the reason why they choose to keep the amniotic sac in some premature babies:


"As premature births are among the main reasons for infant mortality, an en caul birth allows the newborn to be delivered inside the same protective membrane. This reduces moisture loss on the skin, avoids rapid temperature loss after preterm birth, and decreases the risk of the infant being harmed during a C-section."
