"Mas gusto ko pang makulong"- Huling Mensahe ng OFW na Pinatay Umano ng Amo Niya

Mary Jean Alberto is one of the millions of OFWs who work abroad to support their families. However, not all of them end up in good hands. On October 1, the undocumented overseas Filipino worker took her own life after plunging from the 13th balcony in Abu Dhabi. Mary Jean was allegedly overworked and underpaid.

Mary Jean's family were suspicious of the circumstances surrounding the accident. They were convinced that Mary Jean's Moroccan employers should be investigated due to allegations of maltreatment. To support their claims, they revealed her last texts before the incident.

On the morning of October 1, Mary Jean pleaded with her sister, Marie, who was also a domestic helper in Abu Dhabi. In a series of messages, she begged Marie to rescue her because she can no longer take the inhumane treatment of her employer.

"Te puntahan niyo na ko ni Jeng-Jeng dito. Muntik na akong sakalin ni madam. Pinagbibintangan niya na ako kay Hamood. Hindi niya pa ko pinapakain hanggang di natatapos ang trabaho. Pa-pulis niyo na ako!"

These were the last messages they received from Mary Jean. Since then, her phone could no longer be reached. Marie and Mary Jean's daughter, Rohjean, who's also an OFW in Abu Dhabi, contacted her employer right away. They were met with the devastating news that Mary Jean jumped from the balcony.

In addition to being starved, Mary Jean also reported that she has been hospitalized due to over fatigue. She told her children via chat that her work starts at 5 a.m. and does not end until 3 a.m. the next day.

According to her family, Mary Jean applied as a family driver. However, when she came to her employer, she was forced to be a domestic helper since applying for a driver's license will take a few months. When her working visa arrived, Mary Jean found out that she had been hired as a domestic helper all along.

Meanwhile, her family has already reported the incident to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and will not stop until they attain justice. Moreover, DH sa Gitnang Silangan and Migrante International have also reached out to Mary Jean's family.
