Silipin ang Reaksyon ng ABS-CBN Employees sa Pagsasara ng Network

On May 5, ABS-CBN, one of the largest TV networks in the Philippines, has formally stopped all of its operations in TV and radio broadcast. The Kapamilya network has immediately gone off air following the order served by the National Telecommunications Commission. According to NTC, the network has failed to obtain a license to operate.

In addition to that, NTC and Solicitor General Jose Calida accused ABS-CBN of allegedly disobeying its contract. They pointed out that the network's black box or the TV plus is a gross violation of their permit since it forces televiewers to pay on an otherwise free channel.

With ABS-CBN's shut down, not only the big bosses and the executives will be left unemployed. As one of the biggest networks in the Philippines, the Kapamilya network also operates with the collective work and effort of thousands of employees. According to reports, ABS-CBN employs more than 11,000 employees.

Hours before the ordered shutdown, ABS-CBN employees in the newsroom were filled with dismay and grief over the administration's decision. In a video shared on social media, we can see their mixed reactions as Channel 2 finally goes off the air at 7 p.m.

The ABS-CBN shutdown has caused an uproar on social media. Many celebrities, whether from the network itself or from other channels, stood by ABS-CBN against NTC's decision. This is the first time in 25 years that the channel has been forcefully shut down.

The cease-and-desist order was served during the enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila, which also poses a major problem for thousands of workers under the Kapamilya network. Due to the ECQ, the laid-off employees will have no means of looking for other jobs.
