Sharon Cuneta sa Pagsasara ng ABS-CBN: "We are not fighting the president"
Many people were affected when ABS-CBN went off-air on May 6. For the first time in 25 years, the giant broadcast network halted its television and radio programs following the cease-and-desist order from the National Telecommunications Network. The NTC and Solicitor General Jose Calida cited the network's expired franchise, which lapsed on May 4, 2020.
Being the largest broadcasting network in the Philippines, ABS-CBN also relies on thousands of employees that work together to keep the network running. According to reports online, ABS-CBN has more than 11,000 workers whose future are now uncertain due to the closure amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Many celebrities took to social media to express their dismay over this issue. Among them is Sharon Cuneta, who is also known as an avid supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte. On her personal Instagram account, Sharon shared a message for her followers amid this crisis.
According to the 54-year-old Megastar, they are not fighting Duterte or his administration. Instead, they are fighting for the rights of ABS-CBN and millions of Filipinos who rely on the network. Sharon clarified that they are against NTC's order and not Pres. Duterte's policies.
"Mga kaibigan at Kapamilya, gusto lang po namin linawin na we at ABS-CBN are not fighting the President. We are fighting to withdraw the Cease and Desist order issued by the NTC. Galing din po sa Boss namin yan. Para lang po malinaw. Salamat po," wrote Sharon on Instagram.
On the other hand, Sharon is not alone with her sentiments. Celebs like Coco Martin, Kim Chiu, Angel Locsin, Vice Ganda, Regine Velasquez, and many more are also using social media to speak out against the forceful closure of their home network.
