"Naging greedy sila"- Ito Pala ang Tunay na Dahilan Kung Bakit Napasara ang ABS-CBN

On May 5, the ABS-CBN network formally halted all of its operations on television in accordance with the cease-and-desist order from the National Telecommunications Commission. NTC served a cease-and-desist order right on the same day, forcing the Kapamilya network to do nothing but comply due to their expired legislative franchise.

This comes off as a surprise, especially since ABS-CBN's case is still pending in Congress. Now, many people are asking: what could truly be the reason for the shutdown? Neng Juliano-Tamano, the president of FICTAP, explained that ABS-CBN continued adding channels, as well as their TV box, which is a clear violation of their permit.

"Naningil sila sa taong bayan na hindi naman dapat. Dahil ang ABS-CBN pag gumamit ka ng airwaves, that is free to air. Hindi sila pwedeng maningil sa taong bayan," says Tamano, referring to ABS-CBN's black blox, the TV plus, which allegedly features 6 more channels that require payment.

"Ito kaya ang possibleng rason bakit di pa na approve ang Franchise ng #ABSCBN. Kayo na po ang humusga. Naka-filter ata sa kabilang network ang information kaya di to naibo-broadcast sa kabila. Kawawa lang yung mga employee under their Network.. Bakit kasi ngayon lang?"

The cease-and-desist order was served during the enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila, which also poses a major problem for thousands of workers under the Kapamilya network. Due to the ECQ, the laid-off employees will have no means of looking for other jobs.

Due to the cease and desist order, thousands of employees will also be left jobless. ABS-CBN is one of the giant networks in the Philippines and employs thousands of workers, including staff crew, talents, and more. According to online sources, more than 11,000 employees rely on the network.
