Sen. Tito Sotto, May Patama sa mga Nagpo-Post ng Tulong sa Social Media
The coronavirus might be the darkest time of 2020, but it also brought out the best in humanity. To help contain COVID-19, thousands of people from all over the globe are extending their help in order to help people in need. In the Philippines, many celebrities and prominent figures are also extending help amidst the enhanced community quarantine.
Social media has also been instrumental in our fight against COVID-19. Aside from spreading information, different social media platforms have helped raise awareness. Celebrities and regular netizens use social media to raise awareness for their causes. However, it seems like not all people are impressed by this.
For others, posting your acts on social media can be seen as superficial. Among those people who agrees with this is Senator Vicente "Tito" Sotto. Earlier this week, the 71-year-old senator spoke out against people who were posting about their donations on social media.
On Instagram, the senator had a few words of wisdom aiming at people who are always posting their donations online:
"If you want to feed the hungry, then feed the hungry. But the moment you post it on social media, you are just feeding your ego. My amended version from John Wooden."
Many people agreed with the senator's sentiments and among them is his "Eat Bulaga" fellow host Joey de Leon. De Leon, who has also been the senator's long-time friend, agreed with his view and even alluded that many people will be affected by this post: "Aray! Ang gaming sapol!"
At this testing time, it's troubling to see that a high-ranking politician is still concerned with posts on social media instead of finding a solution to our problems. Many people are calling out the senator for his opinion.
Do you also agree with Tito Sotto's sentiments about helping on social media? We'd love to hear from you, so don't hesitate to share your thoughts with us in the comments section below. For more updates on the latest happenings, feel free to follow us on Facebook.
