India, Hindi Nasindak sa Pananakot ni Trump Para Mag-Export ng Chloroquine

Ever since the coronavirus outbreak began, experts are already on the race to discover the cure. All around the globe, thousands of bright minds are already at work to find the vaccine. Experts know that they are racing against the clock, especially now that the COVID-19 positive cases has already surpassed 2 million worldwide.

One of the leading contenders for COVID-19 cure is hydroxychloroquine, a cure for malaria which is also mass-produced in India. On several occasions, United States President Donald Trump has vouched for the effectiveness of chloroquine. In the past few weeks, U.S. has imported massive amounts of chloroquine from manufacturers abroad.

Trump called the drug a 'game-changer,' in spite of the mounting evidence that rules out its effectivity. As of now, there is no conclusive evidence backed by the medical community that shows hydroxychloroquine is effective against COVID-19.

In fact, one study about chloroquine was halted after patients showed symptoms of cardiac damage. India refused to export any more chloroquine, which riled up Trump.

However, India is not backing out on its decision. According to India, the U.S. president is 'disconnected with reality' and hasn't truly grasped the magnitude of the coronavirus pandemic. An Indian news anchor stated on national TV:

"Donald Trump is in no position to make terms. Not at home, not abroad. Certainly not to India. And yet he threatens retaliation if his request is not honored," she also criticized Trump's response to COVID-19, pointing at U.S. surging cases of coronavirus.

As of now, India claimed that they are still willing to help other countries, as that is something any "mature country" would do. But for now, they chose to prioritize their "neighbors" who are truly in need, even if it means ignoring threats from a mega-power country like the United States.
