The marine ecosystem is one of the most diverse and crucial systems in the world. Corals play a vital part in maintaining the balance in this ecosystem. However, due to man activities and global warming, corals are slowly deteriorating these days, which also affects the population of marine animals who depend on them.

Recently, an international team of scientists from Australia found a way to slowly revive 'dying' corals. For years now, several big institutions from the United Kingdom have been working with the Australian Institute of Marine Science to save the dying corals in the Great Reef Barrier.

Amazingly, they discovered that playing loudspeakers underwater can help improve the corals' health. According to the research published by Nature Communications, young fishes are drawn towards the sounds of healthy coral reefs. Experts imitated this noise and played it on a loudspeaker.

Soon enough, young fishes began populating the dead corals, helping to revive them in the process. According to experts, this 'acoustic enrichment' is a vital tool to revive the damaged corals in the Great Barrier Reef. The lead author of the study, Tim Gordon from the University of Exeter, said:

"Fish are crucial for coral reefs to function as healthy ecosystems. Boosting fish populations in this way could help to kick-start natural recovery processes, counteracting the damage we’re seeing on many coral reefs around the world."

Although it helps, acoustic enrichment is just one of the many steps we can take to save our dying marine ecosystem. In the end, we need to find permanent and long-term solutions to climate change, overfishing, and water pollution.
