Doktor na Hinarang sa Checkpoint, Napilitang Maglakad Mapuntahan Lang ang Pasyente Niya

Amid the enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila, thousands of workers are struggling to get to their jobs due to the strict regulations at the border. Only people working in Metro Manila would be allowed to pass through, but since the public transport has been suspended, this poses a big problem for workers, most of whom rely upon public transport every day.

A doctor from Cainta, Rizal, was forced to walk from Cainta border to Pasig City where he’s working. The elderly doctor claimed that they have been stuck at the checkpoint between Eastbank and Cainta for almost four hours.

“Pupunta ako sa barangay medical clinic. Kailangan ako roon eh. I-report niyo na ito. Three and half hours, andun kami. Alas singko [ng umaga], hindi kami makapunta rito,” said Eugenio while speaking to the reporters who flocked on the area.

Unfortunately, Dr. Eugenio is just one of the thousands of people who were affected by this lockdown. On the same area, a motorcycle rider also lamented the fact that he can’t pass by. According to the unidentified rider, he was supposed to fetch his pregnant wife.

Due to the lack of public transport, his wife, who works at the BPO industry, was forced to walk from Cubao to Ligaya in Marcos Highway. Considering she’s three months pregnant, this can pose risks for her and her unborn baby.

“Susunduin ko po ang asawa ko sa Cubao, nagtatrabaho sa BPO. Naglakad na po siya hanggang diyan sa may Ligaya. Buntis pa naman po, three months,” said the motorcycle rider.

In spite of these pressing problems, the government is still strictly imposing the enhanced community quarantine in the entirety of Luzon. Government offices were already closed, but private companies are still allowed to continue their operations as usual.
