Bela Padilla, Nakalikom ng P3.3 Million Para sa Mga Apektado ng Community Quarantine

On March 15, President Rodrigo Duterte has implemented an enhanced community quarantine in the whole Luzon island as an effort to combat the alarming cases of coronavirus in the country. While a lockdown might help contain the dreaded virus, it also poses many problems for the people, especially the working class.

During the enhanced community quarantine which will last until April 15, the entire population of Luzon will be under strict home isolation. The police and military personnel will join forces to ensure that people will stay in their homes, which is bad news for street vendors who needed to make a living.

Many street vendors are worried about their daily profit during the entire month of the lockdown. In order to help them, actress Bela Padilla started fundraising for the street vendors affected by the community quarantine. Bela launched the "Pagkain Para sa Pinoy" fund drive earlier this week.

At first, the fundraising event only aimed to collect Php 1 million to help the affected street vendors. But after it received attention on social media, more help came pouring out until they finally surpassed their Php 1 million goal. But on Wednesday, March 18, the actress received great news.

Bela was woken up by the news that someone donated Php 2 million pesos to their cause, which brings their donations to a total of Php 3.3 million. "I was just woken up by a call. Somebody donated 2 million pesos. We are now at 3.3M pesos."

According to the actress, they are now starting to search for the best deals to put the donation into good use. They are planning to buy food packages as well as give monetary assistance to the street vendors affected by the community quarantine. This just goes to show that not all heroes wear cape.
