NHA Challenges Ormoc Mayor Richard Gomez To Cancel Building Permit on Housing Project

Ormoc Mayor Richard Gomez recently went viral for videos that circulated in social media regarding substandard materials used in the construction of housing project for the calamity victims in Barangay Gaas, Ormoc City.

Substandard Housing Materials

The actor turned politician insisted that the materials used are substandard, even tested the sturdity of the hollow blocks as the foundation of the housing project. The National Housing Authority claimed that the materials used for the project are not substandard, attest with the engineers from the agency as well.

They gave further explanation and familiarity about the materials they exclusively use and how those should not be considered as weak materials. Added to that, they follow a certain standard when it comes to materials.

Also, NHA explained the stacking method which should not be considered as a measurement whether a material is substandard or passable.

Building Permit Cancellation

NHA General Manager Marcelino Escalada, Jr. challenges Gomez to cancel the project’s building permit if the Mayor can’t trust the quality of their output.

Gomez even sends a video to the agency showing how delicate and nonhardy the materials were.

And by that, the agency considers getting in contact with their third-party evaluator to clear the issues and allegations.

People of Barangay Gaas

In an interview, the families from Barangay Gaas are hardly waiting for the completion of the housing project. They cannot stay longer on the evacuation centers intended for them because it is not convenient for hot weather and during rainy days.

Like NHA, Gomez stands firm on his claims regarding the sub standardized materials. He then adds that he has the right to check the site and the materials because he is the mayor of the town and he needs to see to it that his people will be comfortable and feel convenient with their houses.
