Toni Gonzaga, May Prangkang Sagot sa Basher "After washing your hands, wash your mouth also"
During the coronavirus pandemic, positive cases are on the rise in the Philippines, with more than 3,500 cases as of April 9. But aside from the coronavirus positive cases, there's also a surge in fake news and misleading information on social media. Since most people are in a panic, others are making the situation worse by trying to spread negativity.
Even celebrities are not safe from this negativity. Earlier this week, Kapamilya actress and host Toni Gonzaga was criticized on social media after allegedly being 'absent' during the crisis. One netizen left an unsavory comment on Toni's Instagram account.
According to the netizen, who was hiding behind a dummy account, Toni has been incredibly quiet during the coronavirus pandemic. The netizen also compared Toni to her sister Alex, who recently shared in her recent vlog that they donated to families in need during the quarantine:
"Toni puro ka ganyan, wala kami nababalitaan na tumulong ka na sa mga nangangailangan. Puro si Alex lang marunong tumulong sa kapwa. Pinayaman ka ng taong bayan sa pag suporta sayo matuto ka magbalik palibhasa nakahiga ka sa pera, nakakakain ka ng masarap, nakakatulog ka ng mahimbing."
Toni did not let this comment pass. She defended herself from the allegations and claimed that she just likes to keep things private. According to the Kapamilya actress, just because she's not posting on social media doesn't mean that she's helping others:
"I hope the lockdown will make you reflect on how you speak to others. I NEVER broadcast the help we give. I don't need your validation and praise for it. Some people can work and help in silence. Respect that. Not everything is publicized like how you want it. After washing your hands today, wash your mouth also. It badly needs it."
On the other hand, many people also defended Toni from the harsh allegations. Indeed, during this time, what we need is unity and kindness to fight COVID-19 together.
