Residente ng Calamba, Dismayado sa Kakarampot na "Papancit" ng Barangay Nila

Calamba City is one of the wealthiest cities in the Philippines. According to the local government wealth report of the Commission on Audit in October 2019, Calamba City ranked as the 7th richest city in the Philippines with a budget of more than Php 12.6 billion. However, it seems like not all of the citizens in Calamba benefits from that budget.

During the coronavirus pandemic, the people are relying on their government more than ever. The enhanced community quarantine has left thousands of people jobless, which means that they are just relying on the government's aid. But some constituents in Calamba were deeply disappointed due to the response of their politicians.

Citizens of Purok 1 in Barangay Parian, Calamba City, have complained about their barangay chairman's lacking response. According to the residents, ever since the enhanced community quarantine was put into place, their barangay has only given them three kilos of rice. That was the only support they received from the LGU.

But that's just the tip of the iceberg. In Barangay Mayapa, Facebook user Arise Difuntorum complained about their barangay's alleged 'short budget.' In spite of the lack of budget, the barangay chairman still managed to prioritize building a big archway that costs them a lot of money.

Meanwhile, in Barangay 7, the citizens were dismayed when their barangay chairman Daisy Opaco donated pancit ingredients. Much to their disappointment, the 'relief pack' only contains vegetables cut in half including a carrot, one leaf of a cabbage, and a small pancit pack.

This prompted the citizens to call out the attention of Calamba City Mayor Justin Marc Chipeco. With the extension of the ECQ still up to date, this also puts the fate of thousands of people at the mercy of their government.
