Showtime, Inakusahan na 'Scam' Dahil sa Diumano'y Pandadaya nito sa 'Piling Lucky' Segment

Filipinos love gameshows. Every afternoon, millions of people take a break from their work and gather in front of the television to watch entertaining game shows. However, for many people, game shows are more than just entertainment. They also give hope and promises a little chance to change their lives.

Recently, Kapamilya noontime show "It's Showtime" earned public backlash because of its 'Piling Lucky' segment. During the new segment, a lucky, or in this case, not-so-lucky contestant, will choose one painting among many others. If the contestant chose the right one, he might win almost half a million pesos.

But is there really the ultimate jackpot? This is what many people are asking after the debacle that happened on live television. In an episode that aired on February 27, a female contestant failed to covet the jackpot prize of Php 550,000. Host Vice Ganda tried to locate the winning painting, however, he failed to do so.

While the program was aired live on national television, hosts Vice Ganda, Jugs Jugueta, and Teddy Corpuz ripped all of the paintings on the stage in search of the winning painting. However, they were not able to find it. Even the audit officer helped, but their search was fruitless.

After the awkward moment, the show was immediately able to recognize its errors. To fix this blunder, they decided to just give the grand prize to the contestant, Ginalyn Canillo. The show's director, Bobet Vidanes, also asked a heartfelt apology on live air:

“Nagkaroon ng pagkakamali ang Showtime production sa jackpot round ng Piling Lucky ­kanina. Dahil dito, napagdesisyunan na ibigay sa aming player na si Ginalyn Canillo ang negosyo package. Maraming salamat po, madlang pipol.”
