Netizen, May Maanghang na Sagot kay Regine Velasquez sa Isang Open Letter
ABS-CBN, one of the largest television networks in the Philippines, is due to shut down after being besieged by the Duterte administration. If ABS-CBN's franchise will not be renewed, thousands of staff will be left unemployed, including its hundreds of celebrities. Recently, singer Regine Velasquez took to social media to defend their cause.
On Instagram, the "Asia's Songbird" penned a long and heartfelt letter detailing the importance of the network, as well as its shows and celebrities.
"Pano ako kakanta kung wala ng ASAP? Totoo bang magsasara na ang ABS-CBN? Isa po ito sa mga tanong ng nakakarami. TOTOO PO! Anong ibig sabihin nito? Hindi na po natin mapapanood si Cardo!" This is an excerpt of Regine's letter on social media.
However, the singer's sentiments did not sit well with many netizens. Some people on social media were disappointed with Regine, who was allegedly 'covering up' for her home network. One particular netizen wrote an open letter dedicated to the songbird.
On Facebook, Noel Landero Sarifa preached about the network's alleged 'bias reporting.' According to Noel, the world will keep on spinning even without Vice Ganda, Cardo Dalisay, at Kathniel, as mentioned in Regine's letter.
"Ngunit ang higit umanong maaapektuhan ika nyo ay ang news program sa pagkawala ng ABS-CBN, kung puro naman po negatibong balita, paninira sa gobyerno at bias na reporting, ok lang po mawala. Bawas stress sa aming mga Pilipinong nagmamahal sa bayan."
Sarifa's open letter to the Songbird was applauded by the netizens. As of writing this, it already garnered more than 2,000 shares on Facebook alone. Most netizens agree with his insights in not renewing the franchise of the giant network.
