Richard Gomez Catches Developers Using Substandard Materials For A NHA Housing Project In Leyte

Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez called out the supervisors and heads on the site where the National Housing Authority is building a housing project in Barangay Gaas.

Earthquake

After the earthquake that affected the residents of Barangay Gaas in Ormoc City, Leyte, a housing project by the NHA is started to help the affected families start anew.

Site visit

On September 26, 2018, Mayor Richard Gomez visited the construction site and found out that the materials that were used in the said housing were substandard.

He can be heard saying to the developers and heads that the moment you look at the hollow blocks that were being brought to the site, you’ll know that their quality is low.

He also inspected the nearby wall that was being constructed and even asked what the ratio of sand and gravel was used for the mixture of cement.

Good intention

In the video, Gomez can also be heard saying that it is impossible that the suppliers that were chosen are not paying and it is the way impossible that the the developers are not receiving anything from the suppliers for them to be chosen.

Gomez reiterated that he doesn’t care about that, he knows it is happening but he insisted that all he cared about is that the people of Barangay Gaas gets the quality of housing that they deserve.

He even said that he knows that the budget is sufficient. He emphasized that there is enough budget for the project for good materials and the materials that were used now is far from the quality at par.

Past calamities

In the past, Leyte was already struck by a huge calamity which was the Yolanda typhoon. It is considered as one of the typhoons that Leyte will never forget. Aside from the disaster that they had, they also experienced being robbed from their chance to start anew as substandard materials were also used for the housing projects for the Yolanda victims.

This time, it is a good thing that Mayor Gomez knows his way inside a construction site. Whoever is getting the money that is not meant to them, may this be a lesson for them.
